Desuden er kolesterol udgangspunktet for dannelsen af en r\u00e6kke vigtige molekyler i vores kroppe; fx steroidhormoner som \u00f8strogen og testosteron, for dannelse af D-vitamin i huden og for dannelse af galdesalte.<\/p>\n<p><em>Men kan man have for lavt kolesteroltal?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Der findes faktisk en betegnelse\u00a0 for et abnormt lavt kolesteroltal &#8211; <strong>hypokolesterol\u00e6mi<\/strong>. I visse tilf\u00e6lde kan forstyrrelser i det endokrine system lede til opregulering af LDL-receptorer og dermed et \u00f8get optag af cirkulerende kolesterol, s\u00e5ledes at der er mindre i blodet. LDL (low-density lipoprotein) transporterer kolesterol i blodet, og det er i LDL-formen at kolesterol potentielt kan g\u00f8re skade p\u00e5 blodkar. Visse studier, bl.a. et <a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/jnci\/article\/103\/6\/508\/2568717\">dansk<\/a>, har dog ogs\u00e5 p\u00e5vist en korrelation mellem lave LDL-v\u00e6rdier og en forh\u00f8jet risiko for at f\u00e5 kr\u00e6ft. De danske forskere konkluderede dog, at det formentlig ikke var de lave LDL-v\u00e6rdier, som i sig selv ledte til den forh\u00f8jede risiko idet en &#8216;kontrolgruppe&#8217; med genetisk betinget neds\u00e6ttelse af LDL-kolesterol ikke havde en \u00f8get risiko. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5769344\/\">Andre studier<\/a> har knyttet en sammenh\u00e6ng mellem visse typer depression og lavt LDL-kolesterol.<\/p>\n<p>Hvis man ser p\u00e5 patienter, der behandles med kolesterols\u00e6nkende medicin, tyder det ikke p\u00e5 at der er helbredsrisici ved et lavt kolesteroltal. For patienter med hjerte-kar sygdom er m\u00e5let typisk at f\u00e5 s\u00e6nket LDL-niveauet til 1,8 mmol\/L. If\u00f8lge professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sygeforsikring.dk\/nyt-sundt\/kolesterol-godt-eller-skidt\">Erik Berg Schmidt<\/a> fra Aalborg Universitetshospital synes der ikke at v\u00e6re gener forbundet med at f\u00e5 s\u00e6nket LDL-tallet helt ned til 0,5 mmol\/L.
