En tidligere udgave af PACE konceptet blev udgivet i 2006.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4>HIIT og PACE<\/h4>\n<p>I bogen P.A.C.E. promoverer Dr. Sears et &#8220;revolutionerende&#8221; tr\u00e6ningsregime, der dog i bund og grund er en variant af \u00a0h\u00f8j intensitet intervaltr\u00e6ning (HIIT). Men han g\u00f8r det p\u00e5 bekostning af andre popul\u00e6re tr\u00e6ningsformer.<\/p>\n<p>I sin bog henviser Dr. Sears til videnskabelig evidens for at aktiviteter som aerobics, jogging og maraton er direkte skadelige for helbredet.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Aerobics, jogging and marathon running are low-intensity, long-duration exerises. The Harvard study clearly shows that this kind of exercise increases your risk of heart disease and death.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Dr. Al Sears, P.A.C.E., 2010<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4>Et skud i egen fod<\/h4>\n<p>Det interessante er, at Dr. Sears\u00a0henviser til to videnskabelige studier udf\u00f8rt p\u00e5 m\u00e6nd (et fra 1995 og et fra 2003), hvor han formentlig ikke selv har l\u00e6st artiklerne. I alt fald misbruger han konklusionerne. I studiet fra 1995 konkluderer forfatterne, at m\u00e6nd (gennemsnitsalder, 46 \u00e5r p\u00e5 starttidspunktet, i en unders\u00f8gelsesperiode, der strakte sig over mere end 20 \u00e5r) havde h\u00f8jere overlevelse, hvis de tr\u00e6nede relativt h\u00e5rdt i forhold til, hvis de tr\u00e6nede let til moderat. Personerne i den let til moderate gruppe havde dog ikke d\u00e5rligere overlevelse end de som blev defineret som den inaktive kontrolgruppe. Det skal noteres, at relativt h\u00e5rd tr\u00e6ning blev defineret som l\u00f8b, jogging, hurtig gang, tennis og manuel snerydning &#8211; intet der kunne defineres som HIIT eller PACE. En tilsvarende konklusion blev draget p\u00e5 baggrund af studiet fra 2003, hvor der blev kigget p\u00e5 udvikling af hjertesygdom for\u00a0en gruppe m\u00e6nd med en gennemsnitsalder p\u00e5 66, der blev opdelt i flere niveauer efter indrapportering af fysisk aktivitet. Rapporteringen benyttede den \u00a0s\u00e5kaldte Borg-scala, og deres cut-off for den \u00f8verste gruppe var niveau 5 (p\u00e5 en skala fra 1 til 10), svarende til, at man kan f\u00f8re en samtale under tr\u00e6ning &#8211; igen langt fra HIIT niveau.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>These data demonstrate a graded inverse relationship between total physical activity and mortality. Furthermore, vigorous activities but not nonvigorous activities were associated with longevity. These findings pertain only to allcause mortality; nonvigorous exercise has been shown to benefit other aspects of health.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; I-Min Lee et al, The Harvard Alumni Health Study, 1995<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>S\u00e5 Al Sears&#8217; konklusioner omkring udholdenhedstr\u00e6nings skadelige effekter er rent faktisk baseret p\u00e5 data, der helt modsat peger p\u00e5, at udholdenhedstr\u00e6ning rent faktisk er sundhedsfremmende.<\/p>\n<p>Det er i \u00f8vrigt ikke det eneste sted i P.A.C.E., hvor\u00a0Dr. Sears tolker lidt l\u00f8st p\u00e5 resultaterne fra videnskabelige studier.
